World Bodypainting Festival 2011, the review

24.000 visitors joined this year's World Bodypainting Festival. The new location Pörtschach at the lake Wörthersee offered artstis a wonderful sourrounding. The weather was not perfect this year but the models with their artists faced up bravely till the finals. Participants from 42 nations were registered this year.

The main days from 1st till 3rd July ended with the awarding of the World Championship Titles named „World Bodypainting Awards" presented by Kryolan. The whole festival week offered a variety of program highlights.

The festival week started with the workshop and demonstration program within the scope of the WBF Academy.
The classes covered the fields Bodypainting, Facepainting, Airbrush, Special Effects, Make up, photography and digital retouching lectures as well as the history of body art.

| Hundreds of participants took their chance to be inspired by the lecturers and to improve their skills. Internationally renowned lecturers, all of them professionals in their fields, communicated their knowledge to the participants. |
 |
|
The side events during the week were organised by the „WBF sound.institute".
This was the meeting point for artists, photographers, models and other participants, and a great possibility to meet old friends and make new ones.

The first big highlight was held on Wednesday evening. The "Body.Circus - the surreal ballroom" presented by Snazaroo took place this time in the old factory.
The "Fabrik" was converted into a mystical place that was awoken by masks and constumes.

The DJ Line Up was let by our WBF resident DJ and producer Matt Emulsion from London on the ForceFM floor, supported by El Dubz, MC Tonik, Stugz and Steve D.
On the main floor we welcomed Italian's star DJ Joe T. Vannelli with his Supalova club as well as Lords of House and Ruuk.

The artist group "Creachiefs" offered after midnight a stunning, freaky and surreal show with a lot of colours.

| Artsits, models, bodyart - the side event hotspot on Thursday was in the Atrio Shopping Center. |

The largest Shopping-Center in the state was turned into a living artspace where some of the world's leading bodypainting artists showcased their work.

The exhibition "Through Colours" by Einat Dan could be visited throughout the whole festival week in the hotel "Lake's" and reached its highlight on Thursday evening with the book launch "Body Art Fashion" by Karala B.

| Many bodypainting artists were invited to this occasion and were thanked for being part of the book. The evening gave the perfect atmosphere for the 3 festival main days coming up. |

On the boat cruise we presented the winners of the last years photo competition.
The World Bodypainting Photo Award in the category "Photo Classic" went to Gerhard Grasinger and the category "Digital Art" to Manfred Bauer.

The new Bodypaint City was devided into the North City and the South City. Both were filled with stages, artist tents, exhibitors and catering. Visitors could stroll around all day to find programs and imprssions. Also free lectures were provided by Nikon and Adobe.

The themes 2011 were "Renaissance - Rebirth" on the first 2 main days and "Haute Couture" on Sunday, the final day.

Friday, the first main day, started with the category Special Effects Make up and the preliminary round to the World Award in the category brush/sponge.
|

While the audience was waiting for the first model presentations, the jury was already judging the different artworks. The internationally renowned jury consisted of: Mike Shane (Luxembourgh), Craig Tracy (USA), Jinny (Canada, Filippo Ioco (USA), Patrck McCann, (Germany/USA), Denis Penkov (Germany) and Ernst Wieser (Austria).

Our Festival TV Crew was able to broadcast "Bodypaint City TV" via DVB-T this year. Within the state you could tune in to see the stage presentation as well as the music program from the main stage. For example Pierre Sarkozy or Shaggy.

Prior to the awarding of the UV World Awards, „Milk & Sugar" made the audience dance with their music set.
|

After midnight, the stage became dark again. The World Fluoro Awards were on the program.
16 chosen artists could present their ideas in the UV competition. Again, it was a unique show arranged by international artists. The awarding of the winners and the World Champion titles took place straight away.

The trade show area in the north city presented the latest prodcuts and inventions of the industry.
The area was open from 10.30 am - 8.00 pm for artists and visitors.

In between the World Awards, the categories „Facepainting", presented by Snazaroo,

and the Amateur Award, presented by „Mehron", were held.
|

The stage in the south city started with lectures by Adobe and then with DJ's from al around the world powered by Denon DJ und Red Bull.

|
A lot of music highlights were presented to the audience beside the bodypainting and presentations.
We managed to get Shaggy excited about the festival who admired on site the amazing artists on-site.

|
Other musicians such as DJ Mosey aka Pierre Sarkozy or the Swiss pop star Patrick Nuo enthused the audience.
|
 |
|
We are honored to welcome almost every year the Australian Dance Music Band Loonaloop with their new album as well as Stamping Feet from Berlin.
|
 |
|
Our sponsors like Kattus, Legat or Nikon were also influenced by the bodypainting fiever.
|
 |
|
The photo area of the World Photo Award was the hot spot during the whole festival main days.
|
 |
|
The VIP Lounge was the meeting point for guests from politics, economy, media and art.
The Japanese restaurant chain Akakiko offered different delicious food from variouse asian countries on a daily basis.

|
The main categories brush/sponge, airbrush and special effects bodypainting were awarded with the World Champion title on the final day on Sunday.
|
 |
|
This day was under the theme fashion and "Haute Couture".
But not only bodypainters presented their work on the models, also fashion designers had this year some new amazinghighlights.

|
The two new program highlights of the WBF fashion.department were the WBF fashion.park and the WBF couture.award. Visitors had the opportunity to buy designer clothing for exclusive festival prices in the WBF fashion.park. Located in a big tent, international labels were exhibiting their fashion and informing guests about the newest trends.

The WBF couture.award, the „Haute Couture" fashion contest, was aimed at designers who designed and worked out a dress in advance. After a stunning catwalk show, the winners 2011 were announced: the first place went to the label "Kauffeld & Jahn" from Germany, followed by "Winterberg Collection" from Germany. The third place went to the label "Etna Maar" from Croatia.

| What would be the topic "Fashion" without outstanding runway shows? In order to guarantee a high level of the fashion experience, fashion shows by designers from Italy, Venezuela, Australia and England were held during the festival main days.
The Body Art Fashion Show "Farbkrieger" by Karala B. was showed on Saturday evening on the main stage. Artists from all around the world participated in the great fashion show and presented their interpretation of body art in combination with fashion and make-up.

The runway show by "lisa p." from London was also presented on the main stage.
"lisa p." brought the trends from the fashion town of Europe to the lake Wörthersee and also exhibited her designer clothing in the WBF fashion.park.

| The designer and artist Efren Rojas from Venezuela had a very long way to travel and amazed the audience with his fashion show "km 1" on Sunday afternoon. His fashion show combined fashion with music, make-up and special effects, and took the guests onto a journey into a different world. |

|
A great success was the Instant Fashion Show by the italian desingers Irene Sarzi Amade & Franco Vanzani. The show was held both on Saturday and on Sunday on the stage in Bodypaint City South. The audience could watch the models and make-up artists during the styling and transformation.

Pure emotions were recorded at the end of the day after the new world champions were announced in the main categories - Brush/Sponge - Airbrush and - Special Effects Bodypainting

The music fireworks finalized the World Bodypainting Festival 2011 but also rang in the new "bodypainting year".
|

The After Show Party enthuse specially new visitors, who did not know before about the colour spectacl.
Many visitors say it is the craziest party in the world. Everybody is looking forward when main sponsor Sebastian Langer starts handing out the bodypaint colours. The party ended at 4.00 in the morning. Who did not have any colour in the face or on the body simply missed the party.
