Bodypainting Workshop, Brush/Sponge and Colour theory & Composition -
The artistic foundation for Body Art
with Bella Volen (Bulgaria)

Tuition in English
10.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m.

Composition theory

  • How to transform forms
  • Colour theory, colour systems
  • Varying types of composition
  • Perspectives, Composing, Illusion of reality
  • Implementation in your own work

Composition, construction, colour theory, perception and perspective are the alphabet and the most beautyful words in the artists language.

For example you cannot write a good poem in French if you do not know the alphabet and vocabulary. You can always try, there will certainly be people who find it funny and interesting. But if you have a talent for poetry you must first learn how to use the alphabet and language to magicly spin the words.

If you want to break rules to create something new you must first learn these rules. Unfortunately insparation does not always guide us.

Bella Volen will show you in a game of transformation how to bring art together. with

About:
If the world of bodypainting is made up of day and night then the art of the dark hours has to be UV bodypainting. And if this world is made of kings and queens then the king of UV is Wolf Reicherter. UV bodypainting requires the ability to see things not in shadow and light like most artists, but in fluorescence and empty black space. Wolf Reicherter’s vision of the world is unique, and his artistic creations reflect his curious vision.

‘The aim of my work is to transform human beings into arrangements of light, modern avatars and deities and ghostly apparitions. In the grey before time, before people began to develop clothing, they painted their bodies with fats and earth. A shaman painted from head to foot was the intermediate between his people and the otherworld.’

Painting with fluorescent colours is a separate technique that needs to be studied and practiced differently to regular bodypainting. The application onto the body and the designs are vastly different in possibilities to traditional brush and sponge or airbrush painting. Wolf was one of the first artists to make a study of this technique and has been the leader in his field for over a decade. His performances and photographs have astounded viewers all over Europe on stages, at festivals and in magazines.

After winning numerous awards and developing a level of respect for himself in the bodypainting industry Wolf has moved in to teaching UV effects and UV photography. He continues to push his own boundaries with his art and to inspire many artists learning the delicacies of UV.

Some words from Alex...
"I like to teach in a hands on way, I demonstrate the design and techniques by painting a model and get students to join is as they understand how the process works in a very hands on workshop. So the finished piece is something we have all created. You are of course welcome to observe only should you prefer, or you may wish to bring your own model and test drive your skills with plenty of advice creating your design, alongside mine, on your own model. Whichever way you decide to go you'll have lots of hands on work and plenty of chance to watch techniques in action and to get personalized advice from me.
When I work I use a range of techniques covering a mixture of Airbrush, sponge and stencil techniques , so if you are not experienced in airbrushing (or don't have the equipment) then don't fear as I'll show you simple and smart ways of using the airbrush!
As well as the painting element I'll also advise you on getting work in this exciting field, embracing press opportunities and making them work for you, creating a fabulous portfolio, sourcing photographers and models, working with photographers (how to get what you want and not what they want!) and how to make bodypainting a foundation stone in your career."
